Painted Ladies

Our painted lady caterpillars have finally stuffed themselves full of yummy caterpillar food and have spun their chrysalids.  Now we wait…I took a short video of the last caterpillar as he was forming the last part of his chrysalis:

This will be there humble abode once they emerge:

They will emerge in the next two weeks, so I’ll post pictures when they do.

    Hi Kristen—
    We’ve raised Painted Ladies in my kindergarten classroom for several years and it is such an authentic science experience! I wanted to let you know about a picture book that I use called The Butterfly House by Eve Bunting. It is a beautiful book but what makes it super-special is that it’s about Painted Ladies specifically, not Monarchs as is often the case.
