Lesson Plan Book

I’ve updated my Lesson Plan Grid for this year:

lessonplangrid2010-2011

It prints out on two pages, one for my morning and one for the afternoon portion of the day.

Let me know if you find it useful! πŸ˜‰

Cna you tell me a little bit about what you do in each of your blocks during your morning lesson plan grid? Ex: Morning message, shared reading, writers Workshop, Open Court, predictable chart, etc. Just would like to see what you are covering during each activity. Do your shared reading go along with your predictable chart?

      Hi Carrie,
Thanks for your question…the easy answer is that most of what I do during my morning comes from the Building Blocks book (Four Blocks for Kindergarten). The mini-lessons during Writer’s Workshop come from Lucy Caulkin’s Writer’s Workshop books. Open Court comes from the Imagine It! series from the SRA people. The easiest way to explain what happens during Morning Message, Shared Reading, and Predictable Chart times is to get a copy of the Building Blocks teacher book and read through that. The only thing I do is add big books and content more specific to what we are doing in my classroom at that particular time. My Shared Reading always goes along with my Predictable Chart and 99% of the time will have some connection to Science.

      • kristen,

thanks for the info but I’m bugging you again. What book is the Writers wrokshop book by Lucy Caulkins? I see she has a few and want to order the correct one.

Also, is it possible to see an example of your lessons in the morning -I think I might be able to understand better with a picture in my mind. An example for each area may give me the Oh yeah -that’s what she means.
        Thanks again
        Carrie

  2. Hi! Wow. I just stumbled on your website and it is an absolutely wealth of information. Thank you for sharing all that you do! I am a grade one teacher and am wanting to start Literacy Stations in September. Wondering if you could give me a quick rundown on how to get things going at the beginning of the year? IE) How many stations to start with? How long should they work at them? Suggestions for rotation? I have 23 students in my room. Again, the work that you do is amazing! Your students are lucky.

      Hi Megan,
If you do a search on my blog for LWS or Literacy Work Stations, I have posted several posts on how to set the work stations up and get them going. I’ll be posting more pictures today showing what I have set up so far.

The answer key is included with each math worksheet as it is created. The worksheets are randomly generated so when you request one it will be different every time. Each math topic has several different types of math problems so you may choose which area to focus on in that subject.

I have created a special section just for Kindergarten. We currently have 24 differnt topics in this section.

  4. HI!
I am new to your blog – but love the wealth of information. Thank you for sharing! I was looking at your lesson plan form. I see you teach OPEN COURT, too!!! I’d love to hear how you approach deciding what to teach out of all the lessons they give you.
    Take care and thanks again.

      Hi Catherine,
We teach only the Phonemic Awareness portion of Open Court (AKA Imagine It!). We introduce the letters and their sayings/songs, do the decodables, and any of the oral work. Hope this helps!
