The Kissing Hand

The first two days have gotten off to a great start–tiring, but great!  Each day is better than the last! 🙂  Here are some of the activities we have done the last two days after reading The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.

This is a flipchart I created on the Promethean Board.  We used it after we talked about how Chester Raccoon was feeling on his first day of school.  After taking this picture, we wrote words on the hand (sad, scared, happy, excited, nervous, etc.).  We then talked about how we felt and created Kissing Hands for our families:

Thekissinghand

In the big space in the middle, we traced our little hands and then put a heart sticker in the middle. The kids took these home.

We also completed and read this emergent reader:

Mrs. Shehan’s Kindergarten

You’ll have to scroll down a little bit!  The illustrations are great!  The words were very easy to read and the pictures were great for coloring.

We also did a predictable chart:

_________ came to school on the first day and felt __________.

Kristen 🙂
