Monthly Archives: August 2012
The last two days we have been reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and I wanted to create a sheet so my kiddos could practice sorting uppercase versus lowercase letters. I found something similar on-line (but I can’t remember where) and sketched a picture of what I remember it looking like. I created one of my own to quickly print out for practice. I printed one of these for each of my two students and eventually I will put these in my ABC/Work Work Station when I get my Literacy Work Stations up and rolling in the next few weeks.
(this is a screen shot so don’t mind the grey box in the top right corner–it isn’t on what you can download) 🙂
The first two days have gotten off to a great start–tiring, but great! Each day is better than the last! 🙂 Here are some of the activities we have done the last two days after reading The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.
This is a flipchart I created on the Promethean Board. We used it after we talked about how Chester Raccoon was feeling on his first day of school. After taking this picture, we wrote words on the hand (sad, scared, happy, excited, nervous, etc.). We then talked about how we felt and created Kissing Hands for our families:
In the big space in the middle, we traced our little hands and then put a heart sticker in the middle. The kids took these home.
We also completed and read this emergent reader:
You’ll have to scroll down a little bit! The illustrations are great! The words were very easy to read and the pictures were great for coloring.
We also did a predictable chart:
_________ came to school on the first day and felt __________.
Tomorrow is the big day! I get 26 new little cuties to grow and teach for the next 181 days! I went into school today to finish up some last minute things:
We also added a new design in our display case. We share it with first grade. Eventually, we will put our kiddos pictures in when they are presented with ‘Attitude’ awards (IB lingo), but we thought it would be fun to put our Kindergarten and first grade pictures in the display until then!
We have a new Specials schedule this year and we rotate through them on a six day color schedule. Because we added an hour to our day this year, we also added time to our specials schedule and the K and 1st kiddos will visit two classes a day for 25 minutes each. Here’s how I’m keeping it all straight. The color of the card indicates the color day we are on. The special on the top of each card is the specials class we go to first and the class on the bottom is where we pick them up from! Confused? Me too! 🙂 I think I’ll figure it out once I’ve tried it once or twice! 🙂
Happy first day to all of this starting tomorrow! I’ll post some cute Kissing Hand things in the next few days!
I’ve received all the Group #2 swaps and mailed 2/3 of them today. I was trying to get to the UPS store before it closed today! There were about 5 people who only participated in one of the swaps (math or literacy only instead of both) so I sorted those out after I mailed the swaps of the people who participated in both. Now that I’ve completely confused everyone, I just wanted to tell you that I’ve started mailing out swaps!!!!! For the 12 that I shipped today, look out for them on Wednesday or Thursday this week. My goal is to get more mailed early this week, but school starts Monday, so it may be a few days before I get to that! 🙂
I started sorting out everything last night and quickly decided I needed a system to figure out who was supposed to get what, so created a check sheet that you will find in your swap box when you receive it. I think I got everything right, as I have the correct number of swaps for myself left over, but you might find an extra goodies in your box! 🙂
Here’s what it looks like when I was sorting:
I’ll let you know when I mail more! I’m waiting on one more Group #1 swap and then those will start to go out!
