We finally started our Math Work Stations this week. It takes me about 2 weeks (10-12 days) to introduce all the activities the kids will be doing during our MWS times. Here is what we looked like on day 2 of MWS:

For the first one, with the ten frames. Were you just having them put the counters on the frame. Or, were they using both colors and then say they rolled a 3…would you have them put 3 red counters on and 7 yellow ones to make 10. Also, what website are you doing math with? Thanks- we use starfall but haven’t taken the time to research others.

Hi Amanda,
The kids would roll the dice once and then put that many counters on their ten frames. They would then roll again and if they had enough room, they would place more counters on their ten frame. If they rolled a number that was bigger than the number of spaces they had left, they waited until their next turn.

Hey Kristen – I sure wished you were closer – I would just come spend a day in your classroom – WOW! you seem to have it all together!
I would love to know how you are doing (managing, planning, etc) your math stations. Do you do it like Daily 5? how many stations at one time, how long, etc. Do you mind sharing?

You are too sweet! 🙂 How do I do MWS? I run them very similar to Literacy Work Stations except the materials are stored in tubs instead of placed around the room. I have 2 students at a tub per day and they are there for 15 minutes right now. We will work our way up to 25ish minutes eventually. I would suggest Debbie Diller’s Math Work Stations book (published two years ago I think). That’s where I learned all I know. 🙂 I place materials in the tubs based on what standards we are currently working on. What order the standards are in is the order in which I place materials in the tubs. 🙂

So – if you have 22 students, you have 11 tubs (approximately) – it takes you 2 weeks to get through the tubs? so basically you are planning two weeks of math at a time – If that is true – that is cool – I like that. I have Debbie Diller’s book but haven’t taken the time to absorb it and make it mine! Thanks for your input.

Hi Caitlin,
I made those domino cards using 5×7 index cards and different colored sticky does (like you would use for a garage sale). I punched a hole in them and put them on a ring.
