Literacy Schedule

We are required to teach a 90 minute literacy block each day. I’ve been asked if I would share what my time looks like within that 90 minutes so here is what it looks like right now:

8:35-8:50 Morning Message (usually something on the Promethean Board tied to our big book)

8:50-9:10 Big Book (we usually echo read, choral read, and really dig into the text of our book for the week)

9:10-9:40 Literacy Work Station (12-15 stations, 2 students at each)

Drama Work Station, Science Work Station, ABC/Word Work Station, Big Book Work Station, Promethean Board Work Station, Listening Work Station, Library Work Station, Computer Work Station, Writing Work Station, Pocket Chart Work Station, Magnet Work Station, Sound Work Station, Puzzles & Games Work Station, and 2 Work with the Teacher Work Stations–we will add Buddy Reading Station 2nd semester

9:40-10:00 Imagine It!/Open Court (just the Phonemic Awareness portion)

10:00-10:15 Predictable Chart

10:15-10:50 Writer’s Workshop (mini lesson for 5-10 minutes at the beginning of this time, then I conference with 4 children per day as the rest write on their own)

Lesson Plans/Schedule

Here is a look at my new lesson plan page/schedule for this coming year. We added an hour to our day this coming year, so the schedule changed a bit! We are also eating lunch later in the morning (not at 10:25 anymore!!). We will be eating at 11:00, so it doesn’t quite feel so much like brunch anymore! 🙂

I’m uploading it as a PDF because I have used some new clipart and I can’t share it in an unprotected document.

I could create a more generic one if you need me to for you to use, but it won’t have the cute border. 🙂 Just the cute font and dashed line boxes–let me know!

Here is what my daily schedule will look like this school year (for the most part. when we don’t have a special event. or when we get off schedule. or when there’s a snow day!)

8:00-8:30 Welcome, Morning Message, Read Aloud, Breakfast

8:30-8:55 Shared Reading/Predictable Chart/Song/Fingerplay/Rhyme

8:55-9:10 Open Court/Imagine It!

9:10-9:40 Literacy Work Stations

9:50-10:20 Writer’s Workshop

10:25-10:55 Lunch

10:55-11:15 Recess

11:15-11:55 Science/Social Studies

11:55-12:35 Specials

12:40-1:40 Math

1:40-2:10 Interventions/Discovery

My Schedule

Hi Everyone!

I’ve had lots of requests asking about how I get everything done in a day, so I thought I would post my schedule and show you:

8:00-8:10 students arrive

8:10-8:15 announcements

8:20-8:50 we do calendar and update our binders

8:50-9:45 Morning Message, Shared Reading w/ Big Books, Predictable Chart

9:45-10:25 Literacy Work Stations (I also do assessments during this time or work with small groups, my assistant works with a small group daily during this time)

10:30-11:00 Lunch

11:00-11:30 Recess

11:30-11:40 Quiet Rest time

11:40-12:05 Math

12:05-12:25 Science (this would be the time we would do experiments, because 9 times out of 10, I’ve picked a Science themed big book for Shared Reading, or have some way to tie it in)

12:25-12:50 Writer’s Workshop

12:50-1:25 Specials

1:30 Snack

1:45 Pack-up then Discovery time

2:10 cleanup

2:15 car pick up dismissal

2:20 bus dismissal

I hope this helps show how I get everything done–it’s all about using your time in the best possible way, am I flexible in this schedule!? YES!! I have to be!
